PACES: A Self-Management Program for Adults Living with Epilepsy

The Program of Active Consumer Engagement in Self-Management (PACES) is an eight-session, evidence-based program designed to support adults living with epilepsy. Through education, discussion, and goal-setting, participants develop practical tools to manage their condition better and improve their overall well-being.

What Is PACES?

PACES helps adults with epilepsy build skills and confidence to manage the medical, emotional, and social aspects of life with seizures. Participants learn strategies to:

  • Improve quality of life
  • Manage seizures and medical care more effectively
  • Reduce anxiety and depression
  • Strengthen self-efficacy and resilience
  • Set and achieve personal goals

What to Expect

The PACES program includes eight weekly, one-hour sessions delivered virtually via Zoom. Sessions are interactive and supportive, with a mix of education, open discussion, and personal goal-setting.

Topics include:

  • Managing stress and mood
  • Communicating effectively about epilepsy
  • Navigating cognitive challenges
  • Maintaining overall health and well-being
  • Getting the most out of community living

Each group is co-facilitated by an Epilepsy Toronto counsellor and a peer with lived experience, offering both professional guidance and relatable insights.
