Tapping Into The Creative Spirit: A Workshop Exploring the Healing Power of Art

A computer keyboard with a 'workshop' button.

Art can have many therapeutic benefits. Regardless of talent, it can be calming, meditative, social and fun. In all its forms,  art can help encourage the development of healthy coping strategies for people with epilepsy.

You don’t need to be Picasso to enjoy this workshop! You do however need an open mind, a sense of adventure and a willingness to explore new things.

This workshop will allow everyone to explore their emotions, improve self-esteem, relieve stress  and assist in coping with the effects of epilepsy through the use of artistic expression. For this workshop you will need at least a few of the following: pens, pencils, and, if possible, small tubes of Crafter’s Acrylic paint, in black, white and one colour of your choice. In addition, try to bring a sponge and two large, two medium and one small paintbrush. All of these can be purchased at Dollarama, including a paint palette if desired.

It would also be helpful to bring a picture, or three, that you like; perhaps something that you’ve found in a book or magazine.

Youhanth Youvarajah has been painting and drawing as a form of therapy for the last 15 years. He has assisted many adults and children to use art as a form of processing their problems.
