This week Umme Salma Afroz has joined the Epilepsy Toronto team through the Bridge Training Program for Internationally Trained Mental Health Professionals (BTMH). Umme is a Cognitive Behavioral therapist from Bangladesh, where she worked as a counselor and a psychologist. She has been studying in Canada for the past 10 months and will be completing her training through this student placement at Epilepsy Toronto, now through to September. She was drawn to a placement at Epilepsy Toronto because “it is an organization that provides a complete package of services: working with children, adults, seniors, and doing lots of different things like case management, advocacy, and outreach programs. It seems to me that if I want to have a great opportunity to learn, here I can have the essence of everything under one roof. So I chose this organization. It wasn’t sure that I would get the opportunity to be here, I had to face an interview, but when they selected me, I was so happy!”
We’re happy too. Welcome Umme!
