Epilepsy Toronto is working with Project ECHO Ontario to increase Epilepsy Education for Healthcare providers

Project ECHO® Ontario: Epilepsy Across the Lifespan is a learning program that partners community health care providers and epilepsy specialists to enhance care for children, adolescents and adults living with epilepsy.

Recognizing that there is often limited access to neurology and other specialties, an interdisciplinary team of epilepsy experts connects with healthcare providers in communities across Ontario via ‘one-to-many’ videoconferencing for 90-minute “TeleECHO® sessions”, twice monthly in each community. Each team includes an epileptologist, nurse practitioner, pharmacist, social worker and community agency representative.

Today, an new ECHO session will begin in Toronto, with the Toronto Western Hospital as its host site.  The sessions, however, can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection. Epilepsy Toronto’s Director of Adult Services, Rosie Smith will be part of this  ECHO Project team, and our Director of Child and Youth Services, Katie Armstrong (formerly Lundy), has been playing a vital part of the pediatric sessions hosted by SickKids which started this past May.

Here is a list of all 10 Project ECHO Host Sites:

  • Hamilton: Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster Children’s Hospital
  • Kingston: Kingston General Hospital
  • London: London Health Sciences Centre and the Children’s Hospital
  • Ottawa: The Ottawa Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario
