Lecture: Teaching Children with Direct Instruction

This lecture will offer suggestions on how parents and caregivers can use the techniques of direct instruction at home to help their child with school work, and learning in general .
Principles of Direct Instruction Include:
- Setting clear goals for students and making sure they understand these goals.
- Giving clear concise explanations and illustrations of the subject matter.
- Asking frequent questions to see if the students understand the work before moving forward.
- Giving students frequent opportunities to practice what they have learned.

Fee of $10 covers lecture and refreshments. If the cost is prohibitive, Epilepsy Toronto will reduce it or consider waiving the fee.

SUDEP Aware Meeting for Families Affected by SUDEP

SUDEP Aware will be hosting a meeting for SUDEP-affected families in Toronto on Saturday 1st November 2008 to:
- introduce SUDEP Aware
- provide an opportunity for families to meet
- present an overview of SUDEP
- share SUDEP experiences and concerns
- discuss information and support needs and how these may be met most effectively by the community

The annual Toronto Waterfront Marathonn invites charities to form teams of participants to raise money for their specific cause. We are inviting you to join the EPILEPSY TEAM and be a part of something special. Last year Epilepsy Toronto had one of the largest teams and was the TOP FUNDRAISER out of all participating charities. This year, we want to be in the forefront again and bring epilepsy out of the shadows BUT we need your help.
